• When the earthly branch of the chosen day forms a three-harmony or six-harmony relationship with the owner's day pillar or year pillar: this creates a sense of energy converging in one direction.
• When the heavenly stem of the month or day matches or supports the five-element energy of the owner's yongsin (the favorable element): the direction of energy is more likely to align.
• When traditional calendar markers such as Gaemun (Open Gate), Cheonseong (Heavenly Achievement), Seong (Fullness), or Man (Completion) coincide with the date: the day itself carries a quality that is receptive to new beginnings.

Days that satisfy all three conditions at once are rare. It is more practical to set priorities. Start by identifying the five-element energy of the owner's yongsin, as that tends to carry the most weight.

The Wealth Element and the Favorable Element: How They Shape an Opening Date

Opening a business is the start of an activity designed to bring in income. In Korean astrology, the star that represents the flow of wealth and earnings is called the jaeseong (wealth element). The first step is understanding what condition the jaeseong is in within the owner's natal chart.

When the wealth element is weak in the chart

If the wealth element does not carry much strength in the natal chart, one approach is to choose a day whose heavenly stem or earthly branch brings in some of that five-element energy. That said, if the wealth element becomes too dominant, the day master may struggle to hold its ground, so balance still needs to be considered.

When the opening day's five-element energy matches the favorable element

If your yongsin is Wood, opening on a Gap or Eul day, or an In or Myo day, may align more naturally with the direction of your chart's flow. If your yongsin is Fire, take a closer look at Byeong or Jeong days, or Sa and O days.

• When the five-element energy of the owner's gisin (the obstructing element, the energy that works against the chart's balance) comes in strongly on the chosen day: if that energy is already reinforced in the chart, added pressure on the opening day may create friction early on.
• When pa (breaking) or hae (harm) energies overlap with the date: breaking energy tends to signal cracks in relationships or structures, while harm energy can suggest obstacles or blockages.
• The relationship between the owner's samjae cycle and son-eomneun-nal (days considered free of negative spirits): those currently in a samjae period should also look at the overall flow of the year as a whole.

Even when there seem to be many dates to avoid, it is usually possible to find two to four workable days within a single month. The realistic goal is not a perfect day, but the one that clears the most hurdles.

Date Selection Works Alongside Real-World Preparation, Not Instead of It

Date selection cannot substitute for practical readiness. This is something worth saying plainly.

If the local market analysis is incomplete, the startup budget is stretched thin, or a key staff member has not yet been hired, even the most favorable date can only do so much. • Market and competitor research: go out and check the actual state of similar businesses nearby in person.

• Season and weather: if you have outdoor signage or events planned, local weather patterns are a real practical variable.
